My wife and I are very excited as we count down the last few weeks before the birth of our first child. As I was thinking of a topic for this month’s newsletter, it occurred to me how similar having a child is to running your IT systems.
I know many of you are thinking, “Whoa, that’s a stretch!”. But it’s true. When you are responsible for an IT system at your company, you take plenty of precautions, you do your best to think ahead and you prepare for any potential events. That means you invest in current equipment, you plan for the future direction of the company, and you have a backup and disaster recovery plan in place to ensure continuity in the event of the unknown.
When it comes to our baby, we’ve made sure our ETB team was aware and in place for the time when we’ll be out of the office, we’ve prepared the house and packed a bag, and we’ve educated ourselves on how to care for this new little bundle of joy.
But as I’m sure any parent would say, that’s a good start – but it’s only the beginning! The same is true for your IT system. We can predict how long a piece of equipment will last, but there truly is no more of a set date for that than there is a precise due date for our baby. The idea is to educate yourself, prepare yourself, and prepare the people around you. When we create a well-planned and supportive environmnent, we can bridge the gaps from there.
Thanks for your business and make it a great day!
